BOOK QUOTES #16—HOOVERVILLE

All quotes are from HOOVERVILLE by Kayla Joy.

1. I can’t live any longer in a life where I’m silenced.

2. You don’t do good things because of an obligation. You do good things because that’s what’s right.

3. You’re allowed to be selfish once in a while.

4. It’s pretty hard to make a career for yourself when you don’t know what you like.

5. It felt strange to celebrate life while being so certain of an impending death.

6. At the end of the day, we’re still kids trying to find our way through this world.

7. You can’t save the world, so you might as well save yourself.

8. I am sick of people making choices for me because they think they know what’s best.

9. I can be a smartass and I can be unladylike and it’s not the end of the world.

10. Is it too much to ask to live in a world where people simply love people? Where abuse doesn’t happen, and nobody is better than anybody else? A world where you can pass a shantytown and you don’t avert your eyes, but instead you offer them a meal and a conversation. A world where the police don’t attack their own citizens with wartime weapons and call it justice. Where boys don’t fight in a war they never signed up for. How can this be the world we have formed for ourselves? All these years of experience, and this is the best we can do?
